The original vision of the group was to form a resourceful, supportive and beneficial association for members with Down syndrome and their families living in the ACT and surrounding regions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We have grown significantly and now provide information and support to thousands of people across the ACT and surrounding region. While are origins are in supporting families with a child with Down syndrome, in 2019 we broadened our scope to supporting all people with intellectual disability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>&#8220;The ACT Down Syndrome Association (ACTDSA) aims to improve the quality of life for people with Down syndrome and other intellectual disabilities by providing support and information to their families, carers, schools, employers and other organisations.&#8221; &#8211; <em>ACTDSA 2020 &#8211; 2025 Strategic Plan<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Who we help<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p> We also support more than just families, we also provide information and support to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Daycare&#8217;s and Pre-Schools<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Primary School<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>High Schools<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Community Groups (sporting, dance, ect)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Employers<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Medical Professionals<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Government bodies<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Any other interested people!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How we can help<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We are able to provide information, linkages  and referrals for whatever your question may be. As well as answering questions and providing information we also provide:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Parent to parent support<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>We are able to put you into contact with other parents and families of a person with a disability regardless of age! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Workshops for people with disability<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>We run a variety of workshops and courses for people with Down syndrome and intellectual disability. For more information please visit our Adults with Down syndrome page. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Workshops for families<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>We run a variety of workshops for families of a person with Down syndrome and intellectual disability covering all life stages. For more information please visit our Events Page. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Advocacy to ACT Government<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Advocating for the rights and inclusion of people with intellectual disability in all aspects of the Canberra community. To effectively do this we have representatives on various ACT Government Reference Groups. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Support for Educators<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>We provide support to education professionals in a variety of ways.
