Job Type: Permanent part-time (18 hours / week)

Working as part of a small, committed team, you will be an essential linkage point for members of Down Syndrome NSW and other stakeholders including health professional, teachers and community organisations. You will provide information to the different stakeholder groups including practical and emotional support to people with Down syndrome (across the age spectrum) and their families.
You will develop and implement peer support initiatives, organise educational workshops for families / carers and assist with conferences to upskill other stakeholders. You’ll be on the phone responding to enquiries and you’ll help build networks among members. You’ll also attend to general data collecting and recording and operational tasks.
You will be an experienced community / disability worker and will be able to demonstrate the following:
- On a practice level: you will combine your commitment to the principles of participation for people with disability with your understanding of the diverse support and information needs of people with Down syndrome and their families – preferably from lived experience. This knowledge will be supported by your qualifications in community or disability work and you will understand how to navigate the NDIS.
- On a relational level: you have highly developed communication skills, empathy and sensitivity and are able to liaise with a range of different stakeholders.
- On an operational level: you are well organised, can prioritise your workload to meet deadlines, write professionally and are comfortable with technology; you will be able and willing to attend events outside working hours and at weekends (not all the time!).
