This workshop is for parents and carers of children with Down syndrome. It is a free online event.

Participants will have the opportunity to:

  • Connect with other parents and carers
  • Share information and experiences of your child’s education
  • Experience peer support
  • Find our information on education and advocacy from DSV
  • Discuss the current education experience in Victoria – including remote learning

Presenters

Dianne Hickey, Education Consultant DSV

Dianne is an experienced special education teacher who has spent many years in the classroom as well as in the role of Equity and Inclusion Leader in schools in the Barwon region, Vic. She has a Bachelor of Arts (Ed), Graduate Diploma (Sp Ed) and Graduate Diploma in Mental Health for the Teaching Profession. Dianne joined the Education Support team in October 2020 and is committed to advocating for access to education, and inclusion of all learners, in our schools.

Ro O'Dwyer

Ro O’Dwyer, Education Manager DSV

Ro has extensive teaching experience in primary schools in both metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria. A passion for Literacy and supporting students to become readers led her to train as a Reading Recovery teacher and work in this and other Literacy Support roles. Ro completed graduate studies in Special Education and joined DSV as an education consultant in 2019. She has enjoyed sharing her knowledge and experience with teachers, students and parents in metropolitan schools.
