Presenters

Matt O’Neil, Advisory Network Chair, DSV

Matt is passionate about his community and raising awareness about Down syndrome. He is very excited to be the Chair of the Down Syndrome Advisory Network Victoria (DSANVic).

Community Participation

Matt says:

“Community participation is important because you get to meet people. You get included. Once I’m out in the community there are lots of nice people out there. However, you also need to learn how to stay safe in the community. If I’m just walking outside I see other people and they can see this person has an Intellectual Disability and we get more respect for each other.”

Decision Making

Matt says:

“Making my own decisions is important for me to control my life. It is about what is important to me and what I want to have in life and what I want to do. Making decisions is putting things into action.”

Matt will be facilitating the Decision Making Workshop alongside Zoe Shearer.

Zoe Shearer, Health Project Manager, DSV

Zoe has worked in the not-for-profit sector for the last 16 years, delivering projects in a wide range of sectors in workforce capacity building. In particular in the last three years Zoe has worked in the health and aged care sectors to build capacity of professionals to work with people with disability and complex support needs and the NDIS to facilitate getting supports to live an ordinary life in the community.

She is passionate about working with communities that facilitates real change founded on social justice, equality and inclusion, as well as ensuring information is targeted, practical and brings about better outcomes for people with disability and those that support them.
