{"id":4567,"date":"2026-05-03T19:08:46","date_gmt":"2026-05-03T09:08:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.downsyndrome.org.au\/national\/?page_id=4567"},"modified":"2026-05-20T11:58:45","modified_gmt":"2026-05-20T01:58:45","slug":"inclusion-in-action","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.downsyndrome.org.au\/national\/about-us\/our-work\/inclusion-in-action\/","title":{"rendered":"Inclusion in Action"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Inclusion in Action, Building Skills and Changing Attitudes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">About the Project&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:15px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-gray-800-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-c6e2a043756c1e908576f864d8415028\">Down Syndrome Australia is delivering a new project called \u2018Inclusion in Action, Building Skills and Changing Attitudes\u2019, which is funded by the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Down Syndrome Australia will work with an Expert Reference Group to review and update existing resources in DSA\u2019s National Resources Hub, as well as develop new resources for the hub that are relevant for people with Down syndrome, employers, educators, community workers and healthcare professionals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-gray-800-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-c634c1d4df40062abe7201c3f7b80db4\">We will create resources that are co-designed and user-tested with our community. This will make sure they are easy to understand, and useful for people with Down syndrome, and professionals who provide services and supports to people with Down syndrome.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you need <strong>Lachie Gapes<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Lachlan works at Down Syndrome Australia as the Project Officer on the Inclusion in Action, Building Skills and Changing Attitudes project. At 25 years old, Jack is currently focussed on preparing to move into independent living. One of Jack\u2019s jobs is supporting advocacy for people with intellectual disabilities and he enjoys opportunities to speak about his lived experiences and hopes for the future. Jack is one of the Lived Experience Experts in the Expert Reference Group. He has represented Queensland and Australia in Athletics, including at several Virtus World Athletics Championships, winning Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals.
