Youth and Adults with Down syndrome are living more fulfilling lives with greater opportunities than ever before. Greater access to community, health, housing, education and employment has meant that the current generations of youth and adults can live a life that is meaningful to them. Our Youth and Adult team at Down Syndrome Queensland are committed to assisting people with Down syndrome and their families to create a life that meets their aspirations and goals, whilst also providing support through issues of concern and worry.
The youth and adult team can assist in many areas including 1:1 support or via a range of webinars or workshops designed for people with Down syndrome or their supporters. Some of these areas can include:
- Information about puberty
- Support around sexuality and relationships
- Post school options and available supports
- Independent living and available supports
- Health and wellbeing
- Mental health concerns
- Issues surrounding ageing and dementia
- Supported Decision Making strategies
- Communication strategies
- Information and support about behaviors of concern
- Decision making capacity and supports
