Down Syndrome Queensland is available to discuss individual issues of concern, both from adults who have Down syndrome and their family members.  The Youth and Adult Support Officer can connect families with resources and services, and, can also assist with sourcing supports that allow the person to pursue meaningful pathways throughout their life.

The Youth and Adult Support Services officer can assist you on areas such as;

  • Communication
  • Behaviours of concern
  • Puberty/sexuality/relationships
  • Post school options – SLES, Employment, Further education/skill development
  • Independent living – Housing, Skill building, Social connections/friendships
  • Health and well-being
  • Mental health
  • Ageing/Dementia
  • Decision-making/guardianship
  • Succession planning
  • Advocacy Support – Promote and assist to exercise the rights of a person with Down syndrome in all aspects of their life (i.e. have their voice heard)
  • Any other areas that may impact a teenager/adult with Down syndrome
