\n\tMany people in our community want to speak up about the proposed NDIS changes, but are not sure where to start.

There are a few simple ways you can have your say.

You can:

\u2013 write a short submission to the Senate Committee
\u2013 contact your local MP or Senator
\u2013 sign the \u201cProtect the NDIS\u201d petition
\u2013 share your experiences or concerns with DSA

Your submission does not need to be long or formal.

Sharing your experiences and concerns can help decision-makers understand the real impact these changes could have on people with disability and families.

\n\tWe know many people in our community are worried about the proposed NDIS changes and what they could mean for people with disability and families. We share those concerns.

Following more detail about the NDIS Bill introduced to Parliament last week, the DSA Consortium has now shared our initial thoughts on the proposed changes.

We outline some of the key areas we are concerned about and will be opposing in our submission to the Senate Committee, including:

\u2022 proposed cuts to social and community participation supports
\u2022 possible caps on supports
\u2022 changes that could place more responsibility on families

\n\tToday, Guardian Australia<\/a> reported that people with Down syndrome will be among those most impacted by the proposed NDIS cuts to social and community participation funding.

It is important to know that nothing has changed yet for individual plans or supports. These changes are expected to be introduced over several years, starting in October 2026.

The new NDIS Bill proposes a mechanism that will allow the Government to reduce social and community participation funding by 50%, and capacity building \u2013 improved daily living funding by 10% for all participants, regardless of how that funding is used.

People with Down syndrome will be among the most impacted by this change because, as a group, they receive higher social and community participation funding than the average NDIS plan.

Social and community participation and capacity building supports are essential. They help people to work, build relationships, attend important appointments, take part in the community and live with dignity.

Reducing these supports risks increased isolation, declining mental health, and more pressure on families and other informal supports. This change will cause risk to our community and increase segregation.
