But just what is \u2018functional\u2019 mathematics in our rapidly changing, technological world?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Dr Rhonda Faragher<\/strong> is an expert in mathematics education with a particular interest in teaching learners with Down syndrome. She is also an internationally recognised expert in inclusive education. She has been a long standing member of the DSA board.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p> <em>\u201cAt school, a general principle to follow in deciding what to teach is to teach students what others in their year level would be learning, with adjustments. These adjustments should include the use of calculators and visuals.
