Early Years

In May 2014, one the pioneers of early intervention for children with Down syndrome Moira Pieterse passed away.

As a tribute, we asked people who knew her to reflect on her life and work. Families who had previously been given a bleak prognosis for the future of their children were now accessing services that encouraged and supported their children to grow and succeed.

This evolution in the way people see the possibilities for people with Down syndrome paved the way towards a time of higher expectations and greater access to education and quality of life for people with Down syndrome.

We also look at the launch of the NDIS in South Australia and a feature on Veronika Davie who was born with Down syndrome and cerebral palsy.
