This resource offers different options for breaks. Creates empowerment and independence by allowing students to dictate when they feel they need a break.

Using Velcro or blu-tak give student a certain number of break cards.

Explicitly teach students how they can use them and the expected procedure they will follow.

Differentiate how many you use depending on the student and the length of time it is used for.

Alter the number of break cards depending on student’s attention span and period the cards are used for i.e. a lesson of 45mins may only need 4 cards, a whole session (2hrs) may need 8 etc.

Reduce the number of cards used in a session to increase engagement.
