Helping people with intellectual disability be confident and safe online

Down Syndrome Australia (DSA) is working with Good Things Australia to close the digital divide for people with intellectual disability.

People with disability are more at risk of being digitally excluded. This project is helping everyone use technology more safely and confidently. Being confident online helps people connect, learn and take part in their communities.

The project is one way we’re working towards improving quality of life and building capacity within the Down syndrome community.

Overview

DSA has employed 10 Digital Champions with intellectual disability from across Australia. They have completed digital literacy training covering:

  • How to support people with intellectual disability to learn digital skills
  • Online safety tips and tricks
  • Essential digital skills for work
  • Resources to help others

The Digital Champions are now teaching community organisations and support workers how to help people with intellectual disability use technology safely. Training runs online and face-to-face until 30 June 2026.

Highlights

  • 10 Digital Champions trained and employed
