How are we run?
Down Syndrome WA’s Aim High Club operates on 3 members to 1 support ratio and is billed as per the schedule of supports. Members can bring their own support worker to our events if required, however please notify the Aim High Coordinator before the event of this intention.
Our members are supported by an experienced group leader and supports who are off similar ages to the members. The supports share their own strengths, hobbies, experiences with the members, all the while demonstrating inclusion in every program that we run. We are inclusive of every person between 18-30 years old living with Down Syndrome regardless of their culture, background or ability.
Previous events we have run as part of Aim High Club include Zumba, Fringe Festival, Cooking and Bowling and Mini Golf.
Our Aim High Coordinator is also open to suggestions and feedback for events from our members, regularly emailing and sourcing comments. Our members regularly help with event planning and are encouraged to develop leadership skills as part of the program.
Our Aim High Club members have developed their own set of program rules including; being respectful, friendly, listening, helping and being nice to each other and the supports, no arguing, no swearing, staying positive and having fun!
