“(We) would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to Down Syndrome WA for sharing such valuable and insightful information to our Santa community during our annual event. Cassandra’s presentation raising awareness and promoting understanding has truly deepened our Santa’s knowledge and appreciation for the incredible individuals within the Down Syndrome community and will help them create better connections. The resources and support you provide are not only informative but also inspiring, helping to foster inclusion and compassion. Thank you for your continuous efforts in making a positive impact on so many lives.“

“With more knowledge comes more power to change the status quo – The amazing Cassandra Hughes, CEO of Down Syndrome Australia, spoke to the ORS MDT about Down Syndrome Regression Disorder (DSRD). A disorder that affects those with Down Syndrome from ages as young as 10. The prevalence is unknown because we are just starting to scratch the surface with recognition of DSRD and much needed imperative research in Australia.”
Laura-Jayne van Alphen, State Manager for Speech Pathology, ORS ACT
“I am pleased to provide a recommendation for Down Syndrome WA, based on the invaluable training session they delivered to our swim school instructors at Wanneroo Aquamotion.
In our Swim School at Wanneroo Aquamotion, we offer various programs, one of which is our Dolphin program. This program accommodates around 200 swimmers with diverse additional needs, including many who live with Down Syndrome. Our commitment to providing the best possible support for these swimmers led us to seek expertise from specialists in the field, and we reached out to Down Syndrome WA for our July staff training session.
We simply asked Down Syndrome WA for a presentation on how we can better support our swimmers living with Down Syndrome and we were delighted with their response.
Cassandra and Nikki from Down Syndrome WA were incredibly accommodating of our request and immediately agreed to share their knowledge with our team. Their preparation and the level of detail in their presentation far exceeded our expectations. It was evident that they invested significant time and effort into creating an engaging and comprehensive session, showcasing their passion and personal commitment to their work.
We discovered that many of our current teaching tools for swimmers with additional needs are also highly effective for teaching swimmers living with Down Syndrome. The session provided us with strategies to improve our communication and delivery of instructions, ensuring clarity and effectiveness. And we gained new knowledge about the benefits of water for swimmers living with Down Syndrome that we were previously unaware of.
Our instructors have highly praised this professional development session, describing it as brilliant and inspiring. The session has had a positive impact on our team, enhancing their confidence and skills in supporting our swimmers. Based on this experience, I have recommended Down Syndrome WA to other swim schools seeking professional development opportunities.“
