What a night! Thank you so much to everyone who came along to the Fiona McBurney Match Day Experience launch last week. Many of you travelled through lightning, thunder and heavy rain to get to Bundoora, and we really appreciate the effort you made to be there.
It turned out to be a great evening, and the umpiring group told us it was their best teambuilding session yet. Your energy and enthusiasm was felt in the room.
We were also lucky to have members of the McBurney family join us. They shared some lovely, funny memories of Fiona and her time in the program. It was particularly special to have Fiona’s sister there, who was visiting from India. Hearing their stories reminded us why this match day experience is so important and why Fiona’s impact is still felt today.
The Fiona McBurney Match Day Experience aims to connect sport and disability by providing a unique experience for individuals to undertake an official guest AFL trainer role for the AFL umpires on match day.
Thank you again for making the trip from Albury, Mildura, Shepparton, Ballarat, Bendigo, Geelong and everywhere in between. We loved having you there and can’t wait to see you out on the ground at Marvel Stadium, ready to go when the first sirens sound.
