Information about announced NDIS reforms

23 April 2026

Yesterday, The Hon. Mark Butler MP, Minister for Disability and the National Disability Insurance Scheme announced significant proposed changes to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

We acknowledge this announcement will raise concern within our community. These decisions affect people’s lives, independence and participation, and the voices of those most impacted are essential.

Yesterday’s announcement raises several concerns, including proposed changes to access and eligibility, and potential reductions to supports for social and communication participation.

What we do know is that nothing is changing yet, and we have time to work through the detail alongside our community. We will continue to advocate with the Down Syndrome Australia Alliance and other trusted sector partners to ensure the outcomes of these reforms are in the best interest of people with Down syndrome and families.

From Down Syndrome Victoria CEO, Daniel Payne: “We want our community to know you are not alone. No matter what changes are made to the NDIS, we will keep advocating to protect the supports you rely on and ensure your rights, wellbeing, and future remain secure.”

DSV will continue to provide further updates and opportunities for community involvement as they become available.

In the interim, please continue to remain in contact with us – share your stories, questions and concerns with us via phone 03 9486 9600 or email info@dsav.asn.au.
