About the event
Do you have a toddler or an older child who needs help developing toileting skills or managing bladder and bowel control?
Whether you’re just starting toilet training or supporting a child with ongoing continence needs, this session will equip you with practical advice and evidence-based tools.
You will learn about the resources and services available through Continence Health Australia (CHA), and how to access the National Continence Helpline (1800 33 00 66).
Come and have your questions answered by a Nurse Continence Specialist about readiness, disability- specific approaches, continence needs and NDIS supports.
This session is for parents, carers and families of children with toileting or ongoing continence challenges.

Presenters

Nives Zerafa, Continence Health Australia
Nives is the Project Lead for Children and Young People in the Public Health team at CHA. Her work has a particular focus on improving engagement and developing practical evidence-based resources to support children’s toilet independence. She previously coordinated the organisation’s national health promotion initiatives, including the co-designed development of the no-language animated video series ‘Wee Stories’ and the review of priority languages and bilingual continence resources. Her career has been driven by a commitment to providing accessible, engaging and well-informed health information to communities.

Sara Derksen, Continence Health Australia
Sara is a Nurse Continence Specialist who has been practicing since 2015. She has extensive experience supporting children with neurogenic bladder and bowel conditions, as well as neurodiverse children and their families. Sara is part of the nursing team that staffs the National Continence Helpline at CHA, where she provides information on bladder and bowel health, continence products, funding schemes and referral pathways to local services. She also operates a private practice, Continence Continuity, offering assessments, plan reviews and toilet training support via video or phone consultations. As a mother of two, and with lived experience raising a child with disability, Sara brings both professional expertise and personal understanding to her work.
