Need some help getting your child ready for secondary school? Hear from Belinda Johnson who has a daughter in Year 7 as she shares some great tips and advice to get you started.

Participants will gain knowledge about:

  • preparing for transition to secondary school
  • the first term – priorities, adjustments, relationships and the unexpected
  • the unique journey
  • challenges
  • unexpected positives.

This session is for parents and carers of students transitioning to high school.

Presenter: Belinda Johnson

Belinda is Senior Lecturer of Social Work and Human Services and a researcher in disability studies and creative practice at the Social Equity Research Centre (SERC) at RMIT University. She is also mother to a 14-year-old young person with Down syndrome and autism who started mainstream high school in 2026.
