About the event
Voter education sessions are offered through the VEC’s Democracy Ambassador program. The program supports voters who are under-represented in elections to learn how to make their vote count.
You will have an opportunity to practise voting, ask questions and share what you would like to know about voting.
We will provide easy-to-understand materials and activities to help you understand the information.
In this workshop, you will learn about:
- what voting is and who can vote
- how to enrol and vote correctly at an election
- where to get help and feel more confident about voting.
Who is this workshop for?
This workshop is for adults with Down syndrome. Adults with Down syndrome do not have to bring a support person to the workshop unless they wish to.

Presenters
Alex Sencek, Victorian Electoral Commission
Alex is a member of the DSV community. Her middle son, Harry, is 20 years old and has Down syndrome. Alex has worked as an educator in the disability community for more than 35 years. For the past 8 years, she has worked at the Victorian Electoral Commission as a Democracy Ambassador. In this role, Alex delivers voter education sessions to people with disability. She also connects with families and carers, helping them learn more about the supports and resources available to them.
Jack Williamson, Down Syndrome Victoria
Jack is passionate about being himself and achieving life goals. Jack has a Cert III in Hospitality, and he juggles a very busy schedule of supports, activities and work, including two days a week as a Compliance Officer and Office Assistant. Jack is also a staff member of DSV’s Advisory Network, as well as representing Victoria as part of the Down Syndrome Australia Advisory Network. Jack hopes to share his experiences and inspire others with disability to know that they can have meaningful work, intimate relationships and be active contributors in their communities.
