What is CoSP and why is it important?

“Attending COSP is a great way to help people learn about the big issues for our community and how
we can make things better for people  with Down syndrome.”

Michael Cox, Down Syndrome Advisory Network member

Every year since 2006, individuals and organisations from around the globe gather every year at the Conference of State Parties (CoSP). They have a united purpose: to discuss the implementation of the landmark Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (The Convention).

The Australian delegation includes representatives from the Australian Government, the Department of Social Services (DSS), the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), the Australian Human Rights Commission (AHRC) and a selection of Australian organisations and Disability Representative Organisations.

COSP is a great opportunity to:

  • Meet new people from around the world
  • Discuss inclusion for people with disability
  • Learn about what other countries are doing for disability rights
  • Share important issues for people with Down syndrome and how we can improve
  • Talk about what we’re doing in Australia to make things more inclusive.
