On Tuesday, Down Syndrome WA had its official launch for the My Voice My Health App, funded by the WA Department of Communities.
The app is a gateway to forming a better relation between people with Down syndrome and the health care system. The resource will allow individuals with Down syndrome and their families to access and find any medical information for themselves. My Voice My Health aims to support our community by providing general health data that medical practitioners may not always have access to.
The app was co-designed with members of DSWA and their families and carers to ensure that all the information is relevant, equitable and inclusive. Advocacy is important and everyone deserves to walk into a doctor’s office and be treated with the best possible care, dignity, and respect. This app has the ability to inform and educate, providing support for people with a diagnosis of Down syndrome, their families, carers, and medical and allied health professionals. The app has leading edge information on conditions and medical implications a person with Down syndrome may experience.
A special thank you to Don Punch MLA for Disability Services; Fisheries; Seniors and Ageing; Small Business and Glen Porter, Senior Sector Development Office at the Department of Communities for attending. We would also like to thank our wonderful community, staff, and Push Consulting for making this vision come to life.
