Down Syndrome Australia (DSA) is inviting expressions of interest to join our Board of Directors as a volunteer.
DSA is the national peak body for people with Down syndrome and their families. Our Board plays an important role in guiding the organisation’s strategy, governance and impact.
We are committed to inclusive governance and our Board includes people with Down syndrome. We use accessible practices, including Easy Read materials and participation supports, so that all Board members can contribute meaningfully to discussions and decisions.
This role is for a Board Member based anywhere in Australia.
About the role
Board Members help oversee the work of Down Syndrome Australia and ensure the organisation remains strong, effective and accountable.
This is a voluntary (unpaid) position.
We are particularly interested in people with expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- Corporate compliance and governance
- Marketing and communications
- Fundraising and philanthropy
- Information technology and digital strategy
Who we’re looking for
We welcome expressions of interest from people who:
- Support the inclusion and human rights of people with Down syndrome
- Bring relevant professional skills and experience
- Work well collaboratively as part of a Board
- Are willing to contribute their time and ideas to help strengthen the organisation
Time commitment
Board members contribute approximately 6–8 hours per month, including:
- Four Board meetings each year
- Two online
- Two in person
- Reading Board papers and contributing to discussions and decisions.
DSA provides supports to enable Board members with Down syndrome or intellectual disability to participate fully in governance.
