About the event

This is an introduction to sensory processing with a Q and A at the end to discuss specific issues that families are experiencing.

Some questions to know if this session is for you:

  • Why does my child not want to have their nails trimmed, teeth brushed or hair washed?
  • Why will my child not eat anything but white foods?
  • Why does my child watch television upside down?
  • Why does my child keep rocking or moving?
  • Why can’t my child stay on task?
  • Why can’t my child eat with us at the table?
  • Why does my child always trip or fall or spill things?
  • Why does my child wait until they are busting to use the toilet?
  • Why does my child explode without warning?

These can all be explained through the sensory processing lens.

Sensory processing or integration is the effective registration and accurate interpretation of sensory input in the environment including one’s body. It is the way the brain receives, organises and responds to sensory input in order to behave in a meaningful and consistent manner and make adaptive responses. And it could be responsible for these and other challenges that you are seeing in your child.
