About the event

Find out about Carer Gateway, an Australian Government program providing free services and support for carers.

If you care for a family member or friend with disability, a medical condition, mental illness or who is frail due to age, then Carer Gateway can help you.

One in 9 people in Australia are unpaid carers for someone with a disability or chronic illness, and Carer Gateway is where their wellbeing comes first.

The program, developed by the Australian Government, allows you to access a range of services and support in person, online or over the phone. When you call Carer Gateway, your local service provider will listen to your individual caring situation to understand your needs and tailor support so that it’s right for you. They may arrange help around the home, sessions with a counsellor, equipment to help you study or respite care.

On the Carer Gateway website you can also connect with other carers and access useful information, courses and resources.

The session is both for people who have never registered with Carer Gateway and people looking to reconnect after a break.

Participants will gain knowledge about:

  • what Carer Gateway is
  • why supporting carers is important
  • the registration process and timeline
  • services and supports available
  • supports for family carers and young carers, such as secondary carers, partners, children and siblings.

Thank you to Alfred Health and Carer Gateway for presenting this session.
