3 November 2025
We’re thrilled to share a monthly update from the Down Syndrome Advisory Network (DSAN) – a national group of people with Down syndrome who meet fortnightly to build their skills and share their views. This month, we hear from Annie.
My name is Annie and I live in Canberra, ACT.
I work part time at Murray’s Coaches as a Reservation’s Agent, I assign seating and check in passengers. I love my job as I get to meet lots of people. In my spare time I love dancing and Zumba, I also go to a Science and Math group at ACTDSID.
I have been on DSAN since December 2024 and I really like it. I like meeting everyone, making new friends and learning new things.
In October, we did some training with Kate about social media. We learnt about the different types of posts people can make and I made a post about being healthy. I wrote down my tips to help people be fit.
We made some videos for Down Syndrome Awareness Month. You would have seen them on the DSA Facebook page! My video was about telling people that having Down syndrome isn’t a bad thing, how people treat me is the bad thing. When I watched the video I was really happy and proud of myself. It’s really important to show people that I can do anything I want to.
This month, we also had Erin from the Advocacy Team talk to us about education. It’s important that everyone feels happy and safe at school, and it’s important that we talk about how to make school better for everyone.
We had Matthew Mason-Cox join one of our meetings. I thought it was fun that Matthew was there because I know him! I am friends with his daughter so it was very cool to know someone on the DSA Board. Matthew talked to DSAN about what the DSA Board does and what he thinks makes a good leader.
We have exciting things happening in November. We will have David Fuller come to our next meeting, and Nathan will give us some training on how to write a magazine article. I can’t wait to learn!
Thanks,
Annie Lee
