Supporting parents, carers and children through connection, understanding and shared experience is at the heart of MyTime.
One of the friendly faces helping bring this to life across several groups is our dedicated Facilitator and Play Lead, Samia Hassoun, whose journey into MyTime grew naturally from lived experience as both a parent and a MyTime member.
Where you’ll find her at MyTime
Samia facilitates the Friday MyTime group at Newport, creating a welcoming space where parents and carers can connect, share and feel supported.
She also play leads across several MyTime groups during the week:
- Mondays at MyTime Tarneit
- Tuesdays at MyTime Melton
- Thursdays at MyTime Reservoir.
Each group brings its own unique energy, and she loves being part of so many local communities.
Samia’s MyTime journey
Samia previously attended MyTime as a member, which allowed her to experience the program and its support firsthand.
“My son attends a specialist school with MyTime Facilitator Laura’s daughter. Laura facilitates the Tarneit and Melton MyTime groups. Our children became good friends, and so did Laura and me,” says Samia.
It was through Laura that Samia found out about the job opening for a Play Lead at MyTime Melton. Samia applied for the role and commenced late last year before taking on her Facilitator and Play Leader roles at three additional MyTime groups.
Samia loves the peer support style of the MyTime program and being there for parents and carers who may not have support in their everyday lives. She also enjoys building a bond with the children and providing them with a space to play and feel free to be themselves.
MyTime offers a nonjudgemental and safe space to support parents and carers in their journey. It shares useful information and brings guest speakers from different organisations in to assist members in accessing the support they may need. Activities such as art and craft and other fun sessions are also offered.
Samia shares, “It’s a great opportunity to enjoy a coffee and chat with parents and carers who are living similar experiences and understand what you are going through.”
What’s coming up this term
Some exciting things coming up in Samia’s groups include:
