DSQ Support Coordination Getting Results!

If you’re like most of Down Syndrome Queensland’s families, you are struggling to manage all the changes to your supports as a result of COVID-19 along with understanding all the recent NDIS announced changes.

Down Syndrome Queensland (DSQ) are pleased to announce that they can now offer support coordination to families right throughout Queensland.

Not only does this service help navigate all the changes and access the right support, but it can also support individual cases where specific items are needed to continue receiving therapies during this pandemic.

DSQ has noted that since social distancing rules have been in place a lot of members are unable to continue with their face to face therapies.

DSQ’s Support Coordinator Carolyn Jackson said, “Unfortunately, as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic and being part of an at-risk population, one client has had all therapeutic and support services suspended.  This 46-year-old male who has made significant progress in his speech, independence and general well-being in recent months faced the prospect of undoing all his hard work due to the termination of support.”

Ms Jackson added, “By utilising support coordination services, we were able to work with his Speech Pathologist to secure equipment through NDIS funds that will enable Speech and Language therapy to continue in the safety of his home.”

This client is just one example of many in a similar situation.  DSQ would like to see no member negatively impacted by changes to how supports are delivered and are now offering Support Coordination state-wide in an effort to minimise this impact and support individuals to access what they need.

If you would like to know more about DSQ support co-ordination please email Carolyn on supportcoord@downsyndromeqld.org.au

DSQ can also support you in navigating changes to your plan, understanding the Covid-19 NDIS changes, or making best use of your plan in the current environment even if you cannot access support co-ordination.
