DSWA – International Day of People with Disability!

Today is International Day of People with Disability!

This year’s theme is amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future.

At Down Syndrome WA, our Vision is that all people are welcomed in an inclusive society, where their contribution is valued, and they are supported to lead a life of their choice and our purpose is supporting a life of possibilities.

We are working together to create a world where disability is not a barrier to leadership.

We are proud to continue to work with people with Down Syndrome to facilitate growth, independence and seek and provide opportunities for people to reach and exceed their goals and aspirations.

Our CEO, Cassandra Hughes said, last weekend I worked with the Down Syndrome WA Advisory Network, a group of 9 leaders with Down Syndrome. It was the inaugural meeting of the DSWAAN, and I asked our new leaders what they thought a leader was. See the info graph for what our amazing leaders said being a leader was. The future is bright, and it will be exciting to see what these new leaders achieve in the broader community, changing community attitudes and building awareness.
