Michael Cox Joins Down Syndrome Australia Board

Down Syndrome Australia is excited to announce that Michael Cox has joined our board. 

Michael is a passionate self-advocate from Queensland. He’s known for his vibrant personality, leadership and dedication to promoting health, fitness, equality and inclusion. After competing in international swimming, he now helps people and communities reach their full potential. Michael is an independent thinker with a positive attitude and a strong sense of responsibility. 

Michael is a member of the Down Syndrome Advisory Network (DSAN), where he advises Down Syndrome Australia (DSA) on issues affecting people with Down syndrome. In 2024, he represented DSA at the United Nations Conference of State Parties (COSP) in New York City. There, he spoke on key topics like employment and inclusion. 

Dr Rebecca Kelly, Chair of the Down Syndrome Australia board, welcomed Michael’s appointment: 

 
“We’re thrilled to welcome Michael to the Down Syndrome Australia board. Michael’s long-standing commitment to advocating for people with Down syndrome, along with his strong leadership and passion, make him a great addition. It’s vital that people with Down syndrome have a real role in shaping the decisions we make and the work we do, and we’re excited to have Michael help us do that. His experience and dedication will be so valuable as we continue working to promote the rights and inclusion of people with Down syndrome.” 

Michael shared his excitement about joining the board: 

“I believe that I was put on this earth to help create a positive change.  Being a part of Down Syndrome Australia’s Board will help make this happen.”
