DSWA – Today is World Down Syndrome Day

Today is World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD), the day we celebrate the capacity, contribution and value of people living with Down syndrome. In 2026 the theme for World Down Syndrome Day is Together Against Loneliness.

Our DSWAAN members share what helps them through lonely moments:

Adam

“I love spending time playing basketball and hanging out with my friends. This make me feel less lonely and blessed. Spending time doing what I love and being with my friends makes me feel happy”

Brooke

“When I feel lonely I like to get up and dance because that takes away my loneliness. The beach helps me feel relaxed. When I am lonely it helps me bring back happy thoughts and energy. Little things like dancing and the beach help me feel happy again.”

Naomi

“When I feel lonely I go out and talk to my chickens.”

Patrick

“Spending time with my family makes me feel less lonely and happy.”

Rachel

“Trying something new is a good way to feel better about yourself.”

Tilly

“When I feel lonely I like to give my cat a cuddle animals are good company! Call or text a friend. You can catch up with your friend and go for a walk, have fun at the shops, play on the swings at the park, or just have a milkshake.”
