Circles of Support refers to a group of people coming together with varying levels of formality to support an individual with the aim of promoting social capacity, self-determination, social inclusion and individual choice.

Circles of Support refers to a group of people coming together with varying levels of formality to support an individual with the aim of promoting social capacity, self-determination, social inclusion and individual choice.

Participants will gain knowledge about:

  • What is a circle of support?
  • What is the purpose of a circle of support?
  • How do you create a circle of support?

There will be an allocated Q&A session included in this timeslot to allow attendees to ask questions.

This workshop is provided free of charge thanks to funding from the Department of Social Services.

Presenters

Teresa Micallef, Belonging Matters

Teresa Micallef has always chosen to work at the cutting edge of change in community and has worked alongside people with disabilities and their families for over 25 years. She was the Coordinator of a family governed group called Living Distinctive Lives for nine years. Teresa has worked with Belonging Matters for the past seven years consulting with people and families, developing and delivering workshops, and is the Project Manager of Building Community Networks (Circles of Support). She facilitates three circles of support and sits on one as a member. She continues to be impressed by the power, creativity and resilience of people who experience disability, their families and networks to foster community pathways and opportunities for genuine inclusion.
