DSV is coming to Ballarat this August to run two workshops for families.

You are welcome to attend the whole day, or you can select individual workshops.

We will also be running workshops for people with Down syndrome on the same day. You can read about those workshops here.

About the event

Building & Supporting Independence, 10am-12pm

This workshop is for family members of an adult with Down syndrome.

This workshop is for family members who want to support an adult with Down syndrome to be more independent and make more of their own decisions.

Participants will gain knowledge about:
  • why independence is important for people with Down syndrome.
  • ways to support people with Down syndrome to be more independent.

Housing Options, 1pm-3pm

This workshop is for family members of an adult with Down syndrome.

The workshop will explore housing options, making decisions about housing and how the NDIS can be used to help people with Down syndrome achieve more independent housing. This is a basic introduction to your housing journey.

By the end of the workshop you will have:
  • awareness of how you can support the person with Down syndrome to be involved and make decisions regarding housing
  • greater understanding of the housing options available for people with Down syndrome
  • increased knowledge of the funding available through the NDIS to support independent housing options.

Presenters

Debby Fraumano

Debby Fraumano, Adult Support Manager, DSV

Debby is a social worker who has been working in a range of social services in Victoria for the last thirty years. She started out in family services supporting vulnerable families before specialising in disability. Debby has experience in working in direct service with people with disabilities, case management and advocacy, information sharing and training.

Debby is a parent of an adult with a severe disability, and as such also experiences the trials of the disability world, having firsthand experience of navigating the NDIS, health, housing, education, employment and ageing. Debby is also a keen equine enthusiast and loves spending time with her herd of horses.
