About the event

Join us for an online session about special disability trusts, led by an experienced lawyer.

Planning for the long‑term wellbeing of a loved one with a disability often involves navigating complex rules and options. This information session will break down special disability trusts (SDTs) in a simple, practical way so you can understand whether this type of trust is the right fit for your family.

This is for parents, carers, siblings and people supporting someone with Down syndrome.

In this workshop, you will learn:

  • what a special disability trust is
  • whether it’s suitable for you
  • assessing eligibility for a special disability trust
  • advantages and limitations
  • the impact of assets and income testing for government benefits
  • current funding limits and what can be paid from the trust
  • the steps in setting up, running and ending an SDT
  • wider estate planning considerations when supporting a person with a disability.
