About the event
This information session is designed to help support parents and caregivers of children with Down syndrome to navigate the toileting journey with confidence.
This online session will cover information about developmental readiness, setting up for success and practical toilet teaching strategies.
It is not intended to promote a specific toilet teaching approach, but instead to provide guidelines for planning an individualised approach for your child.
Whether you are just starting out or if you have already started and would like to learn more, this session will provide practical strategies and guidance to help you and your child with toileting. There will also be an opportunity to ask your individual questions.
Participants will gain knowledge about:
- understanding readiness
- strategies to set up positive toilet teaching routines
- tracking progress over time.

Debbie Atkins
Debbie is an occupational therapist based in South Australia. She has 30 years’ experience working in community-based paediatric services. Debbie has a special interest in promoting positive toilet teaching practices for all children. She has been actively involved in parent education programs and the development of resources to support toileting.
