Who we are
The ACT Down Syndrome & Intellectual Disability Association (ACTDSID) was formed in 1987 by a group of parents as a self help organisation. The original vision of the group was to form a resourceful, supportive and beneficial association for members with Down syndrome and their families living in the ACT and surrounding regions.
We have grown significantly and now provide information and support to thousands of people across the ACT and surrounding region. While are origins are in supporting families with a child with Down syndrome, in 2019 we broadened our scope to supporting all people with intellectual disability.
“The ACT Down Syndrome Association (ACTDSA) aims to improve the quality of life for people with Down syndrome and other intellectual disabilities by providing support and information to their families, carers, schools, employers and other organisations.” – ACTDSA 2020 – 2025 Strategic Plan
