While in New York, Charlotte was able to spend some time talking to people about inclusive employment and sharing resources she helped create as part of the Down Syndrome Australia Employment project.

She met with the CEO and Chief of Staff of the National Down Syndrome Society and spoke about her work as an Employment Ambassador for ACT DSID and Down Syndrome Australia. She also spoke to them about the NDIS and how she uses her supports to access mainstream employment, fitness activities and to stay connected with her community. It was so interesting to hear about how people with Down syndrome in America live and what supports they receive for employment and education. Charlotte shared some of the DSA Employment Project resources with Kandi and Collen and hopes to stay in contact with them in the future. Charlotte was also lucky enough to visit CafΓ© Joyeux in Manhattan where 75% of the staff have an intellectual disability. The coffee and service were amazing. Charltote spoke to the staff about our Employment project and they shared stories about working as a Barista. In addition to Charlotte's work for ACT DSID and DSA, she also works in the bistro at Eastlakes Gungahlin and really enjoyed seeing what hospitality employment looks like for people with intellectual disability in the USA. ACT DSID would like to thank The Canberra Labor Club Group and The Eastlake Group - Eastlake Gungahlin, for the support provided to Charlotte and the team to share the inclusive employment message in New York and for being leading inclusive employers in Canberra! ...
