Evaluating the impact of the Health Ambassador model

This research project explores the impact of its ‘Inclusive Communication: Improving Health Outcomes for People with Down syndrome’ program between 2020 and 2022. This report assesses the outcomes for Health Ambassadors and for the health sector workforce, and documents the ingredients of the Health Ambassador model that contribute to these impacts.

Research by Bond University showed that the completion of the DSA Health Ambassador workshop led to significant enhancements in the medical students’ knowledge of intellectual disability, communication strategies, attitudes, and their perceived readiness to implement changes in their future practice while interacting with people with intellectual disability. These favorable transformations hold the promise of substantially improving healthcare outcomes for this particular population.
