Grace is the Play Leader at the MyTime groups in Heidelberg, Reservoir and Gowenbrae. Every week, she looks forward to heading to these locations. Grace said, “It’s such a joy to catch up with long-time members and to welcome new families into the fold. There’s a real sense of community in both groups, and it’s something I feel lucky to be a part of.

“I first heard about the MyTime program in 2022 when I was looking for a role where I could use my lived experience to help create a safe and comfortable space for children with disabilities and additional needs. Growing up disabled, I’ve always wanted to build environments where children feel like they truly belong – a place where they’re free to be themselves, to grow, and to thrive.

“Through MyTime, I’ve discovered what really matters to me: finding joy in play and witnessing just how powerful that joy can be. Play isn’t just fun – it’s vital. It’s how children connect, explore and build confidence.

“What I love most about MyTime is the community. Every session, I’m genuinely moved by how openly and honestly members share their experiences. There’s no shame, no judgement– just mutual respect and understanding. Everyone gets a chance to speak, to feel heard, and to leave with a little more hope and a few new tools to help navigate their journey. I’m honoured to be able to support their children in that time – giving them a space to smile, to laugh, to learn and to make friends.

“Outside of MyTime, I love writing, reading and making art – which ties in perfectly with the creative side of being a Play Leader. A fun fact about me is that I’m a triplet! My brother and sister have always made me feel like I belong, even though I’ve always looked and moved a bit differently from them. That experience is part of why being a Play Leader means so much to me – because I know what a difference it makes to feel included.”

If you’re thinking about joining MyTime, Grace’s message is simple: “It’s truly transformative. No matter your circumstances, you’ll be welcomed with open arms. There’s no pressure to share or do anything in particular – just come along and see what it’s about.”

This term, Grace is especially excited about having a range of guest speakers joining the groups to share their knowledge and skills with families. And they will be finishing up the term with a big park picnic, which Grace says, “I just know is going to be a blast. I can’t wait to see you there.”
