Hi, my name is Kez and I’m the Victorian Employment Ambassador for Down Syndrome Australia.
My role as an Employment Ambassador is to assist people who would like to get a paid job. I speak at workshops and events about why employers should give people with Down syndrome a job. I speak about why having a job, like mine at Harris Scarfe, is so great! An event that I spoke at this year was the VALID Having a Say Conference.
I became the Employment Ambassador by applying for the role, having an interview and being selected for the job.
I really enjoy being an Employment Ambassador because I like being able to help people to get jobs so they can save money to live on in the future. Having a job is also good because it gives people something to do, you get to meet new people and learn new talents.
Other work that I do is making videos with Down Syndrome Victoria about employment. I also review Easy Read job descriptions to make sure they make sense.
In my spare time, I enjoy taking photos, watching clips on my laptop, going to my pottery class, watching TV and writing to TV shows to help my brother get acting roles.
Thank you for the opportunity to tell you about my role as Employment Ambassador. Keep a lookout for future updates I will be providing on DSV’s Employment Connections program.
