3 March 2026

We’re thrilled to share a monthly update from the Down Syndrome Advisory Network (DSAN) – a national group of people with Down syndrome who meet fortnightly to build their skills and share their views. This month, we hear from Chris

Hi, my name is Chris Bunton, and I live in South West Sydney.

I am an advocate for people with Down syndrome and love to break down preconceived perceptions. I am also a gymnast and gymnastics coach. I love to learn about filmmaking, and I have been in a few TV shows and feature films as an actor. This summer I have been keeping fit by walking my sister’s dog, whose name is Rufus, and I try to go for a swim every morning.

I am a member of the Down Syndrome Advisory Network (DSAN), and I would like to give you an update on what we have been up to for the last two months.

Before I start my update, I want to thank and farewell Michael, who has been on DSAN for the past two years and is currently serving on the DSA Board. Michael’s enthusiasm, leadership and contributions have made a huge impact. We wish you all the very best in your next chapter.

In February, we had some training with Christine, who is the DSA Operations Manager. She gave us an understanding of

  • What is a Strategy
  • What is a Strategic Framework
  • What is a Strategic Plan

We had some great collaborative discussions, and we shared our input, thoughts and ideas for DSA’s 2027 Strategic Plan, which starts in July this year.

We then had another meeting, which was also with Christine, where we discussed DSA’s focus areas and what our thoughts were on them. Christine also asked us some questions about what we thought was important for the Down syndrome community, and we gave our advice and insights on them.

We also took some time to share our personal news. Firstly, Lisa became an Aunt and went on a cruise to New Zealand. Jack and Callum are going to see Ed Sheeran’s Melbourne concert. Additionally, Jack worked at the Australian Open as a retailer at the AO retail store. Lisa and Jack celebrated their birthdays. And Anna travelled back to Australia from her big trip overseas with her family. Personally, I became an Uncle and moved house, which is closer to my sister and my new nephew. We all also spent time catching up with friends and family.

I am looking forward to keeping in touch with everyone in the Down syndrome community. We will continue advocating so that we can all live a happy, fun, and enjoyable life.

Thank you for reading my update, and I hope I have inspired you in our next chapter with DSA. Have a really great week!
