In the Time of Our Lives, we feature Ethan Parry – The athlete one of our Get Active Athlete Ambassadors.

Seventeen years ago, Gail Parry walked through the doors of Down Syndrome Queensland with her newborn baby Ethan. Years on, Ethan is a Hervey Bay local and an international athletics champion. He is independent, strong and brave. Ethan is determined to become the fastest man in the world with Down syndrome and encourages everyone to ‘Get Active’.

Ethan likes being a part of Down Syndrome Queensland as you “get information, support and meet other people with Down syndrome”, he wrote. Ethan, in 2021 joined the Get Active Program as an athlete ambassador, “I want to encourage others to play sports. I have so much fun training and meeting other people”, he said.

He works out at the gym between training and winning international and national medals and works a local job at Dan and Steph’s restaurant EAT. He wants his friends and family to be proud of him, show the world what he can do, and most of all, encourage everyone to get out and get active.

Does your club need assistance providing inclusive sport and recreation? Or are you a parent who needs assistance joining an inclusive sporting club? Get Active is here to help!

Get Active is a social inclusion program and accompanying resource kit. The program educates local sport and physical activity providers (clubs, coaches, and volunteers) to increase their capability to deliver accessible, inclusive programs that meet the needs of people with DS and other intellectual disabilities.
