Become a Metal Prep Assistant at UNIDAN

Location: Yatala, Queensland

About the role

The Metal Prep Assistant assists in general cleaning and tidiness of workshop and company vehicles, as well as working with manufactured parts, either manually or with a machine. Tasks and responsibilities include:

  • Deburring metal
  • Laser cut removal
  • General yard duties
  • Cleaning
  • Keep work vehicles clean and tidy
  • Assist with pick and packing

As this position is located in the UNIDAN workshop, there will be constant loud noises such as deburring, grinding, banging, drilling and echoing of heavy machinery usage. The right candidate would be able to be tolerate these noises for long period of time. Click here to hear an example of what you’ll hear in the workshop. 

The working shifts are standard to the open UNIDAN workshop hours, however working hours may be flexible based on the candidate. The workshop hours are: 

  • Monday-Thursday: 7 am – 4:30 pm
  • Friday: 7 am – 1 pm

This is a paid position that will be paid at the award wage. 

The Metal Prep Assistant position is open to anybody with an Intellectual Disability that is interested in this line of work. Please note that this role is open to being job-carved.

Here’s a sneak peak of what’s going on in our community. There’s an opportunity for you to get involved:

Participate in University of Queensland’s national study that is evaluating sleep in children with Neurodisability!

The study aims to better understand parental perceptions and current community management of sleep problems for children with neurodevelopmental disorders. This research will pave the way for better understanding of sleep problems in children, improve treatment protocols and overall outcomes for patients who struggle with various aspects of sleep.

Volunteering

DSQ are looking for volunteers for upcoming social events!

Our programs provide participants with an authentic social and education experience to develop their social and independence skills. From awareness events, peer support and challenge weekends (camps), our vibrant and dynamic organisation has a diverse range of volunteer opportunities for those that are interested in getting involved.

To volunteer for our social programs, you must hold a valid working with children’s card and NDIS clearance.
