Fundraising Guidelines

In registering to fundraise for Down Syndrome Queensland (DSQ) the fundraisers agree to the following terms and conditions:

Privacy

Down Syndrome Queensland will use the information we collect to provide you with information, services and resources we feel may be of interest to you.  By registering to fundraise, you are consenting to us collecting this information. Down Syndrome Queensland’s privacy policy is available here.

Photography and Recording

For promotional purposes, photos, audio and video recordings may be taken during fundraising activities. Attendees who do not wish to be filmed or recorded should advise the organisers in writing prior to the fundraising activity.

Guidelines

Any person / organisation fundraising for DSQ will need to have an Authority to Fundraise – letter issued by DSQ.

  1. A Fundraiser:
    1. A Fundraisers is a person / organisation fundraising on behalf of DSQ.  They are responsible for the fundraising activities with DSQ as the beneficiary.
    1. DSQ is not able to take on a coordination or running of the event.  We can offer advice, guidance and a DSQ representative to speak at your event if required.
  • Collections Act 1966:
  • A Fundraiser:
    • A Fundraisers is a person / organisation fundraising on behalf of DSQ.  They are responsible for the fundraising activities with DSQ as the beneficiary.
    • DSQ is not able to take on coordination or running of the event.  We can offer advice, guidance and will endeavour to support a DSQ representative to speak at your event if required.
  • Collections Act 1966 and Charitable and Non-Profit Gaming Act 1999:
    • All fundraising activities must comply with the Collections Act 1966:
  • the appeal shall be authorised in writing by DSQ;
  • all the conditions (if any) subject to which that authority is given shall be complied with in every respect
  • the promoter of the appeal shall be named in that authority
  • the name of the charity and the fact that it is registered under this Act shall be specified at all times when making the appeal
  • Door to door appeals and street collections require Ministerial approval which DSQ will co-ordinate if necessary.
    • Any raffles, competitions etc must comply with the Charitable and Non-Profit Gaming Act 1999:

Under the Act, these different games are broken into categories, some of which require a licence.

DSQ is eligible to conduct category 1 and category 2 games without a licence.  That is:

  • raffles, sweeps, Calcutta sweeps, football doubles, lucky door prizes, bingo
  • Gross proceeds of all games in a bingo session are not more than $20,000
  • For other games—the gross proceeds not more than $50,000
  • The total value of prizes in any raffle must be at least 20% of the estimated gross proceeds (total ticket sales)

  • Financial
    • Expense and record keeping, it is the organisers responsibility to keep records of all income and expenditure.
    • All expenses associated with the event is met by the organiser.
    • Money raised and all income and expenditure records to be sent to DSQ – 21 days post event.
    • Issuing tax receipts – If you receive cash from a donor a bank with a deposit slip you will need to record their name and contact details for DSQ to be able to issue them with a tax deductable receipt.
    • Donations over $2 are tax deductable
  • Logos
    • Fundraisers must us use the “Proudly supporting DSQ” logo when promoting their fundraising activity.  This logo will be provided by DSQ.
