Happy New Year!
If your New Year’s resolutions include getting fit, going on an adventure or giving back to the community, we have some great ideas here for you.
2025 DSV Trek to the Larapinta Trail
You could tick a whole lot of New Year’s resolutions off in one go by joining us for the DSV 2025 adventure trek to the Larapinta Trail this August!
Here are the things you could cross off your bucket list:
- go on an adventure
- train for a special feat
- hike in the Northern Territory
- raise funds for a small but vital organisation (DSV!)
What’s even better? If you register before January 31, you will receive $150 off the registration fee.
If you’d like to join us on what will absolutely be an amazing adventure, you can find out more information or register at the trek website.
Volunteer with Club21 or FitSkills21
If your new year’s resolution is to volunteer and give back to the community in 2025, consider volunteering with either our Club21 or FitSkills21 programs.
- Club21 is a peer support network for people with Down syndrome to develop friendships and share group-based, social experiences with the support of a group leader and volunteers. If you would like to find out more about volunteering with Club21, email club21@dsav.asn.au
- FitSkills21 is an evidence-based physical activity program designed for individuals with Down syndrome. Each participant is paired with a dedicated volunteer FitSkills21 Partner for motivation and support. If you would like to find out more about volunteering with FitSkills21, you can find information on our website.
Set up a monthly donation to DSV
If your New Year’s resolution is to give back to the community in 2025, consider setting up a monthly donation to Down Syndrome Victoria.
We want to live in a society where people with Down syndrome are valued, and enjoy social and economic inclusion. This is what we work towards every day as we work for and with people with Down syndrome and their families. We run support, social, education and employment programs, and advocate for and work with people at all life stages.
If you are able and would like to help us keep doing this work with our community, you can make a one-off or monthly donation (and don’t forget that donations over $2 are tax deductible, which will be a little treat for you come tax time).
Join or try out Club21 or FitSkills21
If your New Year’s resolution is to be more social or get fitter, come and join one of our excellent clubs.
If you would like to go to the gym with a partner to help you with the equipment and exercises, think about coming to FitSkills21. It is great fun in a supportive environment.
Club21 is a great place for adults to make new friends and try new activities. Groups get together and do things like go dancing or to karaoke, go to festivals and the movies, have lunch together, and try new, fun activities.
Club21 Teens is the same type of fun but for teenagers who would like to meet new friends and do exciting activities together.
Each of these clubs is supported by volunteers and DSV staff. You can find out more about each club on the DSV website, or if you want to join Club21, email club21@dsav.asn.au, or if you would like to join Fitskills21, email fitskills@dsav.asn.au.
However you decide to get involved, we are looking forward to welcoming you to be a part of all of our events and programs this year.
