FitSkills for gyms
Are you looking at ways to make your gym more inclusive?
Would you like your gym to be more accessible for people with disability?
FitSkills is an evidence-based physical activity program that helps people with Down syndrome access gyms by increasing their confidence in going to the gym by providing them with a volunteer partner. Volunteers and participants attend the gym together once per week. The program runs to school terms, and does not run during school holiday periods.
While there are significant benefits for participants, there are also lots of benefits to the gym community including:
- supporting the achievement of Disability Action Plans
- increase gym membership
- opportunities to promote your gym
- help reach targets for inclusion of people with disability.
If you have any questions or would like to get your gym involved, email Nicole, the FitSkills21 Program Manager, on fitskills@dsav.asn.au and she will get back to you with more information.
