Did you know that supporting adults with Down syndrome is one of the things we do at Down Syndrome Victoria (DSV)?
At DSV, we aim to support people with Down syndrome and families through key life stages and transitions. For adults this can include ageing, health, housing, legal issues and employment, among other things.
Many adults who have Down syndrome are now living more independent lives, in situations of their choosing, with supports geared to their individual needs. Employment in valued roles; inclusion in sporting activities, clubs and other recreation; and meaningful friendships and relationships are now goals to strive for.
What we offer
Some of the work we do and things we offer at DSV for adults with Down syndrome include:
- health and wellbeing programs and opportunities, such as FitSkills21 and the Fiona McBurney Match Day Experience
- social groups and events, like Club21
- employment support and opportunities
- advocacy and self-advocacy opportunities and resources
- support and resources for family, friends and carers of adults with Down syndrome, including monthly Coffee and Chat gatherings online
- resources and workshops on health, living and other topics.
When a person feels valued, has choice, and has opportunities for participation in everyday life, their physical and mental health benefits.
