Thinking about your future after school and transitioning into work?

As we get older, our lives change. We leave school and begin to do things as an adult, such as going to work, continuing education, and becoming independent.

DSQ is here to help you with this process. We are committed to assisting people with intellectual disabilities and their families to create a life that meets their aspirations and goals.

We offer a range of social and education programs and resources to support each person’s journey to get job ready, join the workforce, live independently, make friends and build the foundation skills to achieve their goals.

Whether it’s applying for jobs, learning to budget or simply building your confidence, we are here for you.

Programs we offer:

Possibility Pathways Program

This free and rewarding program is perfect for school leavers looking for employment, supporting them to get job ready by building foundation skills to enable engagement in work. We aim to get participants ready to join the workforce and gain meaningful employment through developing key skills such as:

  • Resume writing and interview training
  • Strategies to find suitable job opportunities
  • Travel planning
  • Communicating in social and workplace situations
  • Employee rights and responsibilities

This program is supported by the Queensland Government to provide skills development initiatives and job assistance for people with intellectual disabilities.

Employment services

Supporting school leavers and adults to get ready for work, find and keep a job through employer connection, education and job support. We help you to work out what future employment opportunities are available and what is right for you through one-on-one support to build your confidence and create a plan suited to you.

Through identifying skills and interests, resume preparation, training and mentoring, assistance to find and maintain meaningful employment, interviewing and communication support with employers – our committed team is dedicated to giving you the confidence and capability to succeed.

Continued Education Program (CEP)

CEP is an ongoing and holistic continuation of a students’ education after school and into adulthood, building on the students’ learning strengths and focusing on improving:

  • Public speaking & presentation skills
  • General knowledge & current affairs
  • Literacy & numeracy
  • Health & the arts

This capacity building program aims to support people with intellectual disabilities to continue their education post formal schooling and achieve their goals.

Skills for Independence

We want to give people with intellectual disabilities the skills and confidence to help the transition into an independent life. Through weekly classes, participants build their knowledge and capacity to work, cook, count, read, travel and live their best lives.

Through hands-on practical lessons, our students get equipped with the tools to achieve their work and personal goals through:

  • money handling skills
  • time management skills
  • communication skills
  • computer and IT literacy
  • cooking and healthy living tools
  • travel skills
Social events through the DSQ Club!

Whether you are looking for an opportunity to make new friends, to try new things or simply to have fun, the DSQ Club is the perfect place for you!

There are monthly events both in-person and online for people with intellectual disabilities to socialise and connect in supportive environments. Youth and adults over 15 years are welcome to join us!
