Early Years

The early years are a crucial time of physical, social and emotional development for children with intellectual disabilities and there is substantial research supporting the benefits of early intervention for children.

DSQ can assist you across many areas, either through one-on-one support or via access to a range of workshops and webinars we deliver, including:

  • communication strategies
  • school advocacy, co-occurring diagnoses
  • developing social skills
  • navigating puberty
  • understanding possible developmental difference for children with Down syndrome

To provide a holistic approach to you and your family, DSQ provides sibling and wider family support, information on available financial and carer assistance; and help with understanding your child’s NDIS funding and preparing for reviews.

We can also link you to other relevant support services in the community, including online groups, and connect you with Peer Supporter (other families and people with Down syndrome) for additional support.
